If you look back in history there are so many different
styles of guitar play that have given that uniqueness to different bands, from classic rock,
grunge, pop, metal, rock, hard rock, classical, Spanish to country and reggae, and blues.
The Gibson Electric Guitar
If we take the electric guitar which is one of the most
popular instruments and look at some of the brands we can see that the Gibson which is one of the most sought after brands has quality
craftsmanship, in fact Gibson pioneered the Humbucker pick ups (man they give a real rich, quality sustained sound).
Jimmy Page from Led Zeplin and Slash from Guns n Roses are
just two amazing guitarists who favour the Gibson Les Paul when they are going hard at guitar play. Wow the Les Paul was and still is
renowned for and built for reliability, ease of use and a massive richness of sound (Think of Slash hammering that heavy body and a stop
tailpiece).
The Les Paul also has an accurate tun o matic bridge plus
two Humbucker pick ups that provide a unique natural sustain (hey sustain is very simply the length of time a note continues to ring after
it is played). It’s thick wire frets and tonal qualities make the Les Paul a dream to play and at low volume provides a jazzy mellow round
tone, but crank it up and you get a rich, leading sustained sound.
How about Angus Young from AC/DC, he loved guitar play on
the Gibson SG which is a not to distant relative to the Les Paul and Famous for it’s shape with distinctive double cutaways that some say
look like devils horns. The SG is liked for its blues and rock sound as some models only come out with just one lead pick-up which gives it
its raw raunchy sound!

The Fender Electric Guitar
Hey now the Fender, yes the Fender Stratocaster (or the
Strat as its known) is the most famous of the fender family and having owned one is magic to play. It has kept the classical Fender design
for more than forty years with a three single coil pick-up and three or five way pick-up selector which enables a range of tones and
sounds. With twin cutaway horns it makes easy pickings to reach the high frets not to mention the contoured body which makes playing a
breeze.
The Stratocaster has a colourfully bright ringing quality
and if you think of Jimi Hendrix and the raft of sounds he created with his left hand Stratocaster or Eric Clapton with a crisp sweet
sound, may you prefer Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple or Mark Knopfler who led Dire Straights they all had one thing in common, they all
had fun with guitar play and they all love the Fender Stratocaster.
The Chunky work horse or workmanlike Fender Telecaster is
massive for chords and percussive playing as it has a punchy sound due to its relatively short sustain and if you have ever listened to
Pink Floyd you will know why Dave Gilmoure likes the Telecaster. Bruce Springsteen and Keith Richards are another couple of guitar play
Telecaster fans.
There are so many styles of guitar play and you will adopt
or produce one of your own, who knows you might even make history one day, until then enjoy your pick of guitar, remember there are so many
different types and makes available on the market so choose the one best for you.
